Review the information below for a brief description of what you might expect during a dental implant procedure to replace a single missing tooth. Of course, Dr. Patel and his team are available to you to discuss any questions or worries you might have about the procedure, or to provide you with more detailed information specific to your individual case.
1. Dental implants are the best choice when the surrounding teeth are strong and healthy, as pictured in the graphic at left. Dr. Patel will perform a thorough exam, including x-rays and digital imaging.
2. When Dr. Patel has determined that you are a good candidate for a dental implant, he will refer you to an oral surgeon for placement of the custom-made titanium root form. Although the healing process is different for each patient, it generally takes several weeks to a few months for the surrounding bone tissue to form a strong bond with the implanted root form. This process, known as osseointegration, ensures that the structure is securely anchored, at which time Dr. Patel can place your crown.
3. Dr. Patel will design a dental crown for you that will be indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Drawing on his experience in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Patel will make sure your dental crown has the perfect shape, color and translucency for its position in your mouth.
4. When the surgical site for the root form has healed sufficiently, Dr. Patel places the dental crown.
With proper care, your dental implant will last a lifetime and should remain indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
